The Role of Academic Libraries in Information and Technical awareness: Sultan Qaboos University libraries as a model

Abstract

Academic libraries play an important role in educating members of their academic institutions, especially students, as information and technical awareness is one of the basic tasks of libraries and information centers in those institutions. The level of awareness of academic libraries has evolved from information awareness to technical awareness, and with technical development, it has become inevitable that there will be an important role for these institutions in awareness of artificial intelligence as well.

Technical development has been closely linked to information and the educational process, and almost all members of academic institutions deal with modern technologies, whether software or hardware. In order to keep with the enormous technical developments that use artificial intelligence, which have been introduced by academic institutions, and which is mandatory for a member of these institutions to deal with since day one and during the period of his work or study in these institutions, libraries and information centers in these institutions have worked to educate their audiences about the basics and ethics of dealing with these smart technologies.

This paper discussed the awareness programs implemented by Sultan Qaboos University libraries for their members, and effectiveness of these programs in educating the target audience at all levels and ages. It also touched on the challenges and difficulties facing these programs and their implementation
