Trends in using social media platforms and their impact on Islamic culture: A study on a sample of female users in Assiut Governorate

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the impact of social media platforms on religious culture, obtain information in light of the emergence of crises and the spread of epidemics, and find out the trends of the female group in using social media platforms and their motives for using them. A sample of 710 female users of social media platforms in Assiut Governorate was taken, and it was found that the percentage The majority of the study sample uses social media under their real name, Facebook is the most widely used method, YouTube is in second place, and WhatsApp is in third place. It was found that general cultural topics are the most researched topics, and that the most motivation for using them is (they are rich in information and local, regional and global news). A very large percentage of the sample reported that use increases in light of crises and the spread of epidemics. Nearly two-thirds of the sample size reported By participating and following religious groups and pages, more than two-thirds of the sample stated that their benefit from religious pages and groups is high, and that (knowing the duties, recommendations, and Sunnahs of the pillars of Islamic law) is the most motivation for following and participating in these pages and groups. The study recommended the presence of a supervisory body to purify these platforms and block immoral sites. Avoid excessive use of social media, and have a law to prevent the promotion of rumors and fake pages.
